embarrassed to be chinese..

thanks to chieh for bringing the blog back to life.. chieh y didn't u just hop into the car and join in? i bet your story would be 100x more interesting if u had actually gathered up your balls and tagged along..

anyways i just wanted to mention a really painful experience from the wkend.. i was in NYC and was kinda dragged along to like.. the columbia CNY "lunar gala" and it was the most painful performance i've seen in my life and it made me SO SO embarrassed to be chinese and asian.. if the other US balls and relate and share stories that would be nice too..

"traditional" chinese songs and dances.. hip hop and break dancing by stupid wannabe asians and even a retarded fashion show.. i have no idea what the hell these ABCs are thinking.. all this took 3.5 hrs and by the end of it i was so stunned and kinda pissed that i couldn't even begin to describe what was wrong with the whole thing.. it's just so sad when pple like.. can't even get their own culture straight.. and to compensate they present a butchered and screwed up form of "fusion" culture which just humiliates and gives everyone a totally false impression of your own culture.. deluding everyone and worst of all yourself.. just like chieh said.. i think i kinda pity these pple..

i mean i know i'm not very in touch with my roots as a chinese person but at least i don't attempt to present my culture to americans and do a fucked up job with it.. deep down i think the whole thing just smacks of cultural insecurity and thus these ABCs try to present an "americanized" version of their own culture to make it more appetizing and acceptable to americans.. ridiculous.. or maybe they really just don't know better..

well i hope the other 2 US balls can add some stories as well.. esp i'm sure that cornell and brown would've recently had their CNY celebrations.. i refused to attend the one at Duke.. thankfully.. take care balls! see most (if not all) of you guys over the summer..!
